BRIAN QUIST RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT

This year Brian Quist has agreed to remain as President of Ferndown Probus Club (FPC), serving for an additional year.  Brian joined the club in 2007 having moved down to Ferndown from Camberley in Surrey where he was already a member of a local Probus Club.  He has served on the committee of FPC for twelve years, mostly as the club’s Speaker Secretary.

Brian is one of twins born in Stanmore, Harrow.  After leaving Kilburn Polytechnic (now the College of NW London) he joined the Guardian Assurance Company and two years later, with his brother, was called up for National Service where they served in NATO Command Northern Europe, Norway with the Royal Army Service Corps.

Brian qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant and joined the Belgium oil company Petrofina. As its financial manager Brian worked home and abroad attending various meetings and conferences throughout the UK and Europe.  He stayed with Petrofina for over twenty-two years before taking early retirement after which Brian then joined the internal audit department of an American printing and packaging company, Chesapeake.  This also took him to many of the company’s locations in the UK, America, South Africa and Europe.

In 2004 he finally retired to have more time to enjoy life together with wife Lyn, and to see the world – especially South Africa, where they visit his twin brother, and to do those things that they had always wanted to do such as bringing their golf handicaps down, holidays, theatre trips and extending their interests by joining local clubs and organisations.

Brian is chairman of his regiment association and has an extensive collection of postal history of the regiment.  He is an avid supporter of Arsenal FC and has been since the mid 1950’s.  Brian is a family man with two children and four grandchildren.

Brian enjoys the time with his friends in the Ferndown Probus Club, whose members have a wealth of knowledge and experiences to gain from.  He and Lyn enjoy the activities arranged by the club – ladies’ lunches, brunches, picnics, dinner/dances and outings, all spent in the company of friendly people and hopes that his committee will continue to promote these events and extend club membership.

The President’s Message

Moving Forward in 2023

Hello.  I sincerely hope that everybody is faring well and that you will work with your club committee as we aspire to take the club forward and enjoy each other’s company as the delights of 2023 unfold.

The club always offers a warm welcome to new members who are interested in meeting and enjoying the company of active, like minded people so please do tell your family, friends and neighbours about us.

We have returned to our usual monthly lunch meetings at the Dudsbury Hotel and Spa on the first Wednesday of each month and our regular Coffee Mornings for members and their partners on the second Wednesday of each month. Detailed communications will also be issued by our club Secretary (Alan Stevens) on a regular basis.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our regular lunches and coffee mornings. With regard to social gatherings, please support our club and join us if you possibly can.

With my very best wishes to you all and stay safe and well.

Brian Quist, President 2023-2024, Ferndown Probus Club
